Please Install a Slit at Your Earliest Convenience

A reproduction Victorian Post Office public notice, displayed on a noticeboard at Blists Hill Victorian Town museum. Headed with the royal cypher "V R" and a crown, the notice is titled "Post Office — Notice to the Public: Rapid Delivery of Letters — By Command of the Postmaster General." The text urges householders to install street-door letter boxes, or "slits," in private dwellings to speed up postal delivery and avoid keeping the postman waiting. The notice is printed in a mix of black and red Victorian typefaces on cream paper and fixed to a cork board with brass-effect studs. A partial view of other period notices is visible at the edges.

The Postmaster General politely requests you fit a letterbox.
