Is Bifidus Digestivum a made up term or is it real? Scientific proof that fewer blog comments makes you less gassy. So, I turned them off.

Today must be like a good dose of Bifidus Digestivum for my database. You know the tellybox ad that tells us that digestive discomfort affects 56% of women, or some such statistic, and then tells us to eat a pro-something yoghurt-type thing and in two weeks we won’t feel like we want to fart so much?

Think of junk comments (15,481 of them) and junk trackbacks (3,598 of them), as well as the undetected junk comments & trackbacks (about 7,000 in total), as that bloated feeling and the delete button as a daily helping of tasty Activia from Danone(this blog accepts freebies if you want to contact me). In fact, to help my database get over the discomfort, I thought about buying it a blanket and some cushions, but it said another Rhubarb Fruit Yoghurt or a tasty Prune Fruit Layer would be better.

So there we go, scientific proof that fewer comments make you less gassy. So, I turned them off.

Poor Gareth Gates. It seems his career is on the rocks and his record company is trying to rebrand him. Perhaps something good has come out of all the Pop Idol shows. It was widely thought that Gareth was the industry’s preference for the Pop Idol when the public voted for Will Young. Will is still having hit records. Open House 2004

This year’s London Open House weekend is in September.

Last September I visited Bush House, the home of the BBC World Service. It was part of the London Open House weekend, an annual event that allows visitors behind the doors of buildings not usually open to the public. This year it’s the weekend of September 18th and 19th. The brochure can be ordered from the official site. If you’re in London that weekend, I would encourage you to find something to visit!

A little update on the garden work.

I suppose that I should have given you a little update earlier in the week, and I certainly should have recorded it for myself. So, as you can see, we managed to clear a great deal over the weekend – although I thought I had broken the hired shredder unit (but hadn’t). We cleared bags and bags of material away and flattened tons of earth. We placed paving slabs where the new shed is to go (it actually came on Tuesday, but I have no pictures yet), and then, on Monday (after this picture was taken), this fence was replaced with a newer one (of the same style), which doesn’t look like it is about to blow over when the wind gets up.

Don’t Call Me Stupid

The nation is not becoming less intelligent, contrary to popular belief. Euan Ferguson argues that intelligence is on the rise.

If you believe the old-timers, then the nation is becoming stupid. Perhaps not actually the nation, but then a good proportion of the people are less intelligent than their counterparts in previous generations. Every media outlet is dumbing down because we are all too thick to understand long words. Well, thank goodness for yesterday’s Observer (second reference to it in a row).
